Capitol Hill
Colorful, eclectic, and full of energy — Cap Hill is unlike anywhere else in Seattle.
by Amber Eckert
Capitol Hill residents enjoy easy access to Downtown, First Hill, and the Central District, but this neighborhood has always maintained a distinct identity all its own. There is a refreshing, youthful energy here grounded in a genuinely interesting past. Walk the sidewalks in summer and café seating spills onto the street, cocktails appear on rooftops, and there is always something unexpected around the next corner.
Capitol Hill is a neighborhood of nooks and crannies — each block offers something captivating. Tech workers, artists, longtime locals, and newcomers all share the same coffee shops and corner bars, and that mix creates an energy completely unique to this part of Seattle. Whether you're after tacos at Tacos Chukis, handmade pasta at Spinasse, or bold Lao flavors at Taurus Ox, Capitol Hill delivers range.
Parks, Culture & Nightlife
Volunteer Park anchors the north end of the neighborhood — 48 acres with the Volunteer Park Conservatory, the Seattle Asian Art Museum, the water tower with sweeping views, and broad lawns that come alive in summer. Cal Anderson Park sits in the heart of the neighborhood and pulls together the energy of the area on warm afternoons. Beyond that, Capitol Hill is one of the city's most reliable spots for live music, theater, late-night dining, and cocktail bars that take the craft seriously.
